Relationship problems are often the result of each individual's issues being played out
in an intimate arena. We bring our best and our worst selves to our relationship and can be
unaware of our own blind spots, which hinder us from getting the love and closeness we're
seeking. I find that in seeing each one of a couple individually, I am able to assist them in
identifying their own blocks to intimacy and to encourage compassion both for themselves
as well as their partner. When marital difficulties arrive, the first step towards healing is often found in accepting that a problem exists. Once this step has been taken, a good therapist can help move a couple along the path towards a positive resolution that's acceptable to both spouses. Ultimately, every marriage is unique, and the complexity of the issues involved will determine the length of therapy that's required.
